Where to Maui Locals go to eat?

"Where do Maui locals go to eat?"

It is a question that every tourist loves Maui to make and is an important issue. After lounging on the beach, dinner is often the most memorable part of your vacation.

Over the past seven years I faces observed vacationers (tourism is a big word for me) and I can not help but feel sorry for you, you have no idea what is good! There nothing better than a well served delicious, well priced dinner. On the flipside there's nothing worse than a meal sub-par, overpriced, poorly maintained.

The sad truth is that Maui has much more the latter. "Traps for tourists." Theses places survive because of lack of knowledge of new visitors. They pay much money to advertise, even bribe ordinance, anything to get you in the door. Then they skimp on quality (both wait staff and meals). I might write you a long list of names, but I was taught, if you have nothing nice to say then say nothing. So instead lets focus in large places, places you may never have heard of, but are crowded with residents (people who really know)

It is important to note that I do not work in any of these establishments, which is really a fairness opinion. Make sure that the instructions from Google as many of these places are out of beaten path and are somewhat hard to find.

Local Grinds $ 8 – $ 15 per plate

These are the real gems, healthy food at very large, composed of friendly people.

Aloha Mixed Plate
1285 Front Street
Lahaina, HI 96 761
(808) 661-3322

Slightly off the beaten path yet one of the best known in this list. Aloha Mixed Plate serves local favorites along the beach at Mala. The atmosphere is very casual, there are lots of places for the whole family, beautiful torches, sun of Maui, and you do not need reservations.

Everything on the menu is good, but I always get the BBQ mixed plate and haupia (a coconut dessert).

Fish Market
3600 Lower Honoapiilani Rd # H1
Lahaina, HI 96761
(808) 665-9895

What would the west Maui do without the fish market? Despite claims that all places, this is where you really going to find the freshest fish. They have all kinds of food on the menu and pupu Grande (appetizers) – cerviche, shrimp cocktails, crab cakes, oysters and elbow. All fresh. You can even buy some ahi (tuna) steaks and live lobsters to take home and grill.

The market makes great food and you can eat it outside or inside, but there are very limited places, what I recommend is that you buy a bottle of wine or champagne, for a lot of food to go and enjoy a meal at home better than you could get in any restaurant for about a fifth of the price.

Kahuna Kabobs
126 Lahainaluna Rd
Lahaina, HI 96761
(808) 661-9999

Kahuna is a cool, casual outdoor restaurant in midtown Lahania, you probably walk right by it without even knowing it there. Here you will find great skewers, salads and wraps. Everything is super fresh, tasty and healthy. All residents working in Lahaina like to eat here (we are all sick from food in our own restaurants).

Finding kabobs can be a little tricky. He is located in the alley north of Maui Built store. It'sa great place to eat if you are buying in Lahaina and do not want to spend money or deal with a restaurant (which you probably get better food anyway!)

Fine Dining $ 35 – $ 50 per plate

If you're going to spend much money on dinner, you should expect an amazing experience. It's just that the restaurants will deliver. These are the local points Maui go for birthdays, Hot dates and when the family is in town.

Lahaina Grill
127 Lahainaluna Rd
Lahaina, HI 96761
(808) 667-5117

Originally named David locals Paul (Maui still call it that), this restaurant is consistently better. It actually won "Best Restaurant Maui "fourteen years in a row! Why, you get good food and great service each time.

The restaurant is located on the street front (on the left as you walk away from the ocean). I recommend that you make a reservation, as they are always busy.

Suitcase
1307 Front St. Lahaina
Lahaina, HI 96761
667-9394

Mala is definitely an "under the radar, off-site map." However, when you open the door you be shocked to see how he is busy inside. Friendly staff, atmosphere and killer good food (half the menu is specials that change nightly) keep everyone coming back again and again.

I would definitely recommend a reservation here. Although not save specific tables, tell the hostess who is willing to wait for a table outside, belly, then to the bar for some great drink specials.

Conclusion

There you have it. Five major places to go eat on Maui. But do not just take my word to go try them for yourself. I'm sure you'll realize it's a tourist trap "is after trying these favorite places.
